2. Offline gameplay and local saves

Your aquariums, fish, generated fish art, inventory, economy and progress are stored on your device. No ChillTank gameplay account or hosted gameplay database is needed. Local play and saving do not require our servers.

Steam demo and full-game saves use separate locations. More aquariums and generated art can increase save size. You can manage saves in the game. Clearing this website’s browser data does not delete your installed Steam game’s local save files. Steam installation, activation, downloads and updates require a Steam account and internet access; Steam’s offline-mode requirements also apply.

3. Steam platform features

Steam handles installation, purchases and Steam accounts. We do not receive your payment-card details. When used, Steam Cloud synchronizes save files through Valve; achievements and Steam leaderboards exchange the relevant progress, scores, TankGrade, chosen save symbols and Steam identifiers with Valve. The Top Fish leaderboard also shares a frozen preview of your record fish, including its name, skin, level and display stats. Leaderboard names, scores, save symbols and record fish previews may be visible to other Steam users. These platform features require connectivity, but do not block local play or saving offline. The Steam demo does not submit achievements and uses separate demo leaderboards. See Valve’s Privacy Policy.

Tank sharing is optional and starts only when you press Share tank publicly for the selected habitat. The starter habitat is preselected; you can change it in Habitat Inventory or the leaderboard. This uploads a snapshot of that habitat, its placed decor and fish, including generated fish art, displayed fish details, and fish, tank and habitat names, to Steam Workshop, hosted by Valve. The snapshot is associated with your Steam identity and is publicly discoverable through ChillTank’s Steam leaderboards and Steam Workshop. Avoid putting personal information in shared names. This sharing feature does not upload your full save, inventory, balances or loans; Steam Cloud remains a separate feature.

After sharing is enabled, Manual Save refreshes the published snapshot for that aquarium. You can also update it manually. Stop sharing makes the Workshop item private and hides new visits; copies already downloaded by other players may remain. Steam-hosted content is also subject to the Steam Workshop Agreement and Valve’s privacy rules.

4. Website hosting and administration

Cloudflare hosts and protects the website and processes technical request information such as IP addresses, browser details, requested URLs and security logs. These hosting and security functions are separate from optional visitor analytics.

The public marketing website does not load advertising or visitor-analytics services. The retired browser demo and its playtime statistics are not part of the current service. Protected website administration uses Supabase authentication and storage, separate from Steam gameplay.

4.1. YouTube and external links

Trailer posters, fonts and promotional images are served by this website. The embedded YouTube player is not contacted until you select “Agree & play”. Loading it connects your browser to YouTube, provided by Google, and sends technical information including your IP address and browser details. Google may use cookies or device storage and process data outside the EU/EEA. The privacy-enhanced youtube-nocookie.com domain does not make playback anonymous.

This optional connection relies on your consent under Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR and, where applicable, § 25(1) TDDDG. The choice is not remembered between page loads. Use “Unload video & withdraw this choice” to remove the player and stop further connections from that embed; this does not erase data Google has already received. You can use the website without playing the video. See Google’s Privacy Policy.

Steam, other games’ Steam store pages, social profiles and other external destinations are ordinary links, not embedded trackers. Following a link opens the destination’s service, whose provider processes data under its own notice. We do not add affiliate or referral tracking to the game-comparison links. A Google sign-in selected for protected administration connects to Google; visitors do not need a website account.

5. Support and feedback

Sending a message is voluntary and requires an internet connection. We process the name, reply address, message, category, rating and context you submit. An error report may include technical diagnostics shown in the report form, such as an error code, game version, route, timestamp, browser details or stack trace. Do not include passwords or payment details. We do not automatically receive your local save.

Website forms use Web3Forms; messages may be delivered to our mailbox. Feedback submitted through our feedback endpoint is stored in a private Supabase inbox. We use contact details to address the specific request and related follow-ups, not marketing without separate consent.

6. Purposes, storage and legal bases

Necessary website storage supports requested preferences, cached site resources, security and administration sign-in. Necessary device access follows § 25(2) TDDDG. We do not treat an acknowledgement of necessary storage as consent to optional media. The YouTube player requires the separate choice described above.

Contract-related support is processed under Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR. Website operation, security, abuse prevention and general enquiries rely on our legitimate interests under Art. 6(1)(f); legal obligations may require processing under Art. 6(1)(c). When you request an optional Steam feature, the data needed for it is transmitted through Steam; Valve describes its own processing and legal bases in its privacy notice.

Local saves remain under your control. Support and administration records are retained as needed for the request, security, applicable legal obligations or legal claims, then deleted or anonymized. Technical logs are subject to the relevant provider’s retention settings. Historical records from retired services may still be handled for deletion requests or legal obligations; they are not used for current gameplay.

7. Providers and international transfers

Relevant providers are Cloudflare for hosting/security, Supabase for separate administration and feedback storage, Web3Forms for submitted website forms, Google for YouTube or a sign-in you request, and Valve for Steam. Depending on the service, providers act as processors or independently responsible controllers.

Data may be processed outside the EU/EEA. Where required, transfers must be covered by an applicable adequacy decision, Standard Contractual Clauses or other Chapter V GDPR safeguards. Contact the controller for information about the safeguards relevant to your request and how to obtain a copy.

8. Your rights and deletion

Under the GDPR, you may have rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability and objection, and may withdraw consent without affecting earlier lawful processing. Contact hello@chilltank.com to exercise these rights. You may complain to a supervisory authority, including Die Landesbeauftragte für den Datenschutz Niedersachsen.

See save and data deletion instructions. Steam account and Steam-hosted data requests are handled through Valve. We do not make automated decisions with legal or similarly significant effects.

9. Age eligibility

Steam’s account requirements, the game’s applicable age classification and local law apply. Minors need a parent’s or guardian’s permission where required by law. If a child has submitted personal information that should not have been collected, contact us about its removal.
