ChillTank
The fishkeeper’s field guide

Fishkeeping games on Steam. What would you like to care for?

A fishkeeping game can be a daily feeding ritual, a rare-fish collection or an underwater landscape you build yourself. Start with the part of keeping fish that you enjoy, then choose the game that gives it room.

Written by Chillwatch, developer of ChillTank. This is a guide to different play styles, not an independent review or popularity ranking. ChillTank’s full game is coming soon; the free demo contains selected content. Other games are unaffiliated. Follow the official Steam listings for current features and availability.

Which fishkeeping game is right for you?

Choose the routine before the graphics. Feeding a few favourite fish, completing a collection and running a public aquarium can all look similar in screenshots, but ask very different things of you.

Care and observation
Look for feeding, growth, fish behaviour and a tank you enjoy returning to. For detailed freshwater care and water-quality systems, explore Fish Game’s official description.
Collecting and gentle progress
Chillquarium centres on raising fish and finding rare colour variants. ChillTank combines a designed fish and skin collection with individual growth, breeding and a habitat of your own.
Aquarium design
Aquarium Designer and FISHERY put tank composition at the centre. ChillTank’s full-game habitat tools go beyond arranging a glass tank: its focus includes shaping landscape and water.
Management or a desktop companion
Megaquarium adds visitors, exhibits and staff. Tiny Aquarium and Cozy Littlequarium use compact desktop formats. ChillTank is a dedicated game, with offline singleplayer and local saves.

Where does ChillTank fit?

ChillTank is a cozy fishkeeping and aquarium game for Steam on Windows, macOS and Linux. Collect colourful fish, feed them, follow their growth, unlock breeding and trade through the game’s fish economy. Its low-poly habitats are a place to make a home for the collection.

The full-game creative direction includes building 2.5D habitats from scratch: shaping the terrain, adding water and placing plants, rocks and decorations. The free Steam demo offers a smaller selection; it is not the full habitat-creation sandbox. Check the listing for its current limits.

Aquarium simulator, fish collector or fish tank builder?

“Aquarium simulator” describes several different experiences. Decide whether you want realistic care systems, discovery and progression, or freedom to compose a scene.

For realism
Check for the specific systems you want: water chemistry, species compatibility or plant maintenance. A stylized aquarium does not automatically simulate a real ecosystem. ChillTank focuses on game progression and creative habitats; do not choose it expecting a water-chemistry training simulator.
For creativity
Check whether you can shape the environment, only place decorations, or draw the inhabitants themselves. Drawquarium’s drawing tools are different from ChillTank’s designed fish models, skins and habitat building.
For progression
Check what growth unlocks, how breeding works and whether trading uses the game’s economy. A colourful skin collection, fish development and offspring can provide different goals from management or aquascaping.

Offline fishkeeping, demos and desktop platforms

ChillTank’s gameplay and saves are local. Steam setup, downloads and updates require a connection; optional Steam features also need one. Once set up, offline singleplayer lets you return to your tank without a hosted game account.

A free demo is a way to judge the pace, camera, controls and readability on your own hardware. Compare the Steam system requirements for Windows, macOS or Linux. For Steam Deck, check the current compatibility information rather than treating Linux support as a Verified badge.

Find the fish you would like to keep

A fish collection is more personal when you can inspect its inhabitants before choosing. Our species and skin encyclopedia shows the designs used by ChillTank, alongside species notes and natural-habitat context. It separates currently available and archived designs so artwork is not mistaken for a guaranteed shop offer.

Read the field notes as background to the game. Real fish have care needs that a game’s feeding, growth and breeding rules do not replace.

Fishkeeping game questions

Is fishkeeping the same as a fishing game?

Fishkeeping is about caring for fish and their home. Fishing is about catching them. Some games combine both, so check whether the main activity is aquarium care, collecting, angling or running a business.

Is there a free aquarium game demo on Steam?

ChillTank has a free Steam demo with selected fish and content. The full game is coming soon. A demo lets you try the game’s pace and presentation without assuming that every full-game feature is included.

Can I breed fish and decorate in ChillTank?

Breeding, collecting and decorating are part of ChillTank’s game design. Progression, pairing requirements, costs and the available selection are shown in the game. Full-game habitat creation is broader than the selected content in the demo.

Is ChillTank a real fish-care simulator?

ChillTank is a stylized game about fish care, collecting, breeding and creative habitats. Its game rules are not a replacement for real aquarium care or a promise of detailed water-chemistry simulation.
